Technical characteristics
Muzzle and elastic bands
Muzzle of the Cressi Cherokee Open is the top level open solution by Cressi. It is a cobra head design which softens the angle of the rubbers to work more effectively without suffering unnecessary erosions or tensions, giving the bands the correct direction for best efficiency and precision of the shot. Material of the muzzle is PA66 30% glass loaded Nylon. It is designed for double circular elastic bands and complete with a magnetic spear lock. This solution holds the spear once it is put in place, thanks to two magnets mounted in a watertight chamber. This option guarantees maximum speed of reload without the disadvantages of conventional mechanical restraint systems.
The muzzle comes with one circular 18 mm diameter S45 elastic band with 3.0 – 3.2 (300% – 320% depending on the length) elongation coefficient and 42 shore grades. There is the possibility to add a second circular elastic band or to change it with a 20 mm G20. The wishbone is a 100% Dyneema line of 1 mm diameter solution. Line passage under the muzzle is in steel and of good dimensions.
Barrel
The barrel is a 28 mm diameter tube in anticorodal aluminum with camo coverage. Shaft guide is integrated obtaining a reiforcement of the barrel and best precision of the shot with low friction, as the shaft adheres only in the two edges of the guide. The lower part of the barrel has an extremely important reinforcement thanks to the thickened walls, so stiffness and consequent resistance and precision of the shot are increased.
The connection barrel to handle and barrel to muzzle is insured by double O-rings on both sides, for maximum air volume capacity of the barrel (compared to plugs) and so better buouancy.
Handle and release mechanism
Handle is made in purple PA66 30% glass loaded Nylon. Realease mechanism sees a new stainless steel solution developed 100% in Cressi Italia. It combines stainless steel elements with exclusive self-lubricating Teflon components to minimize friction and erosion. It has an extraordinary equilibrium between trigger sensitivity and resistance to accidental shaft release even using powerful double elastic bands. The line holder is lateral and reversible (can be positioned on left or right side) and made of steel.
Two small wings positioned laterally are present to facilitate loading without interfering with the Nylon and also to clean the line of aim from it. The rear part the handle is complete with a good dimensions removable gun butt, available in two different lengths.
The security lever is lateral and on both sides, even if not of big dimensions, but can be definately felt by the spearo to advise him on safety set on or off.
The handle has a special Cressi angle for best shot precision. The grip has an additional white element in synthetic rubber called rubbersoft (TPU thermoplastic rubber) positioned in the rear part, where the palm of the hand adheres to the handle. The latter is anathomical with a left and light hander simmetrical shape. In the bottom part of the handgrip a hole is present for positioning a line. Reel mount is not present. In the rear part the handle a very short rubber coated gun butt is present.
Shaft
The shaft is a single standard barbed, 6.5 mm diameter, dark tempered 16-4PH stainless steel.

Cressi Cherokee Open puts together all the top level components and technical solutions by Cressi. 100% stainless steel release mechanism, including the trigger, high performing handle, reinforced barrel with integrated shaft guide and camo coverage, and open compact double circular bands muzzle with highly efficient profile and magnetic shaft lock. The muzzle gives the possibility to upgrade even more the Cressi Cherokee Open with a second circular band, eventually shifting to a greater diameter shaft, with a reinforced barrel that well supports higher loads. The following level of Cressi spearguns would be a tapered and hydroformed in extra-rigid aluminum with the integrated guide barrel solution such as the Cressi Cherokee Ocean, that though has a price over the 200 € limit of this dossier.
