ASM: Hello everyone. It’s a pleasure to talk with Apnea Passion again.
ApneaPassion: Euro-African 2019: special situation with non-traditional fishing compared to warmer waters and also fishing starting from the shore…how did you choose the team and please present briefly each athlete?
ASM: I totally agree with your comment, a special situation for many countries including us. Anyway, until now, water is much warmer than we thought. Perhaps if cold water comes, everything changes, but not at the moment. It’s one of the most difficult championships we have ever participated to. Not many fish and just some species (3-4) very difficult to find, strong current, not much visibility. So hard, dear friends!
Our athletes are Xavi Blanco, Óscar Cervantes and David Fernández and 3 helpers: Óscar Hidalgo, José Luis Fernández and Juan Vicente Pérez. Patxi Díaz as logistic manager and me as captain. This is our team.
We strongly believe that our team is a nice combination between experience and youth.
AP: Expectations for this competition?
As in any championship, we arrive in Denmark with hope. We are trying to work as much as we can to get good results.
AP: Key elements to be strong in this competition? (physical, tactical, experience in these waters..)
ASM: I think physical condition could be one of the most important keys to win this event. Current could be our worst enemy or the best allied. That’s why physical form is very important. The knowledge and assimilation of these waters in a short time (15 days) could be another important point for all the teams. I think it can be one of the most open championships.
AP: Strongest teams and athletes to look at?
ASM: Of course Scandinavian Countries are favourites. Their water knowledge is fantastic and they spear at home.
Italy as always, Portugal, Croatia, and if you allow me to say it, of course Spain. I always trust in my boys!! Anyway as I told you before it is one of the most open championships.
